As a father of 3 under that age of 6, I truly understand just how quickly your floors can get dirty and sticky. I swear, I’ll wipe up spilt milk and a smashed banana, only to find a hiding smear of yogurt 2 hours later. There is always something on our kitchen tile!
This is why I honestly love having a robot mop for our home. Our kitchen, eat-in kitchen area and foyer are all tile flooring. So there are endless shoe marks, dirt, food stains, and God knows what else on the floors. A regular schedule with a robot mop can drastically help cut down on the manual scrubbing that I have to do on a weekly basis.
There are a few robot mop options out there, so it is hard to know which one to choose. In this article I am going to talk about one of the first to become mainstream, the Braave Jet 240 Robot Mop. So, here is my full review of the Jet 240.
Braave Jet 240 Pros

Jet 240 Cons

- No Scheduling
- Can Leave Streaks Once Pad Is Dirty
Braava 240 Design & Appearance
The little robot mop from iRobot isn’t anything incredibly fancy or futuristic at first glance. It is basically a little white square with a one button and some blue highlights. Overall it is an attractive robot mop, very minimal and conservative on styling, in my opinion.
- Weight: 2.7 lbs
- Dimensions: 6.7″ wide X 7″ long X 3.3″ Tall
One Button Cleaning – It can’t really get much simpler than this, can it? There is literally just one large button on the top of the robot for you to turn it on and start cleaning.
You are able to use the iRobot app to start up the mop, as well. You’ll also find a few other controls and options in the app. You do not need the app to use the Jet 240.
Braava 240 Cleaning Modes
Dry Mode – This mode is exactly what it sounds like. The 240 does not use any water as it makes one pass over each section of the floor.
Dry mode is basically to give the floor a quick dusting and remove and noticeable debris on the floor.
Wet Mopping – This is the traditional mopping mode, where the Jet 240 sprays out water and then makes 3 passes over a section of floor.
Wet mopping is what you’ll most commonly use to keep your hard floors clean. It works the most like a regular mop.
Damp Sweeping Mode – This mode still uses water to mop the floors, but not as much as in Wet Mopping mode. It will also only make 2 passes over a section, instead of 3.
Damp Sweeping is a good mode if you just need to give it a quick clean but don’t need the full scrubbing power of Wet Mopping.
Personally, I never use the Dry Mode. I feel like it basically just pushes dirt around and doesn’t really clean much. You aren’t going to remove smudges or stains without any water.
I very seldom use the Damp Sweeping Mode either. I feel like if I am going to run the Braava 240, I might as well go full power. So I would say that 95% of the time I go with the normal, wet mopping mode on my tile floors.
Braava 240 Cleaning Performance
As I mentioned above, there are 3 different cleaning modes that you can select from. In my mind, the Wet Mopping mode is really the best one to use and it is pretty much the only mode I use.
When it Wet Mopping mode the Braava 240 will randomly make its way around your room, cleaning as it goes. It will spray out the water and then perform 3 passes over the section, scrubbing as it goes. The passes do a surprisingly good job at breaking up debris and dirt and then removing it.
When you are in Wet Mopping mode, it does take long to clean a room. Also, given the small stature of the little robot mop, you cannot expect it to clean super quickly. And it does not. The Jet 240 definitely takes it time. I like to just let it run when I am doing something else or if I am stepping out for a few hours.
Also, keep in mind that a robot mop is not going to remove stains that have been on your floor for months. So don’t think you can just turn the Braava 240 loose on that wine stain from last Christmas and it will wipe it right up. Sorry to say, but you are going to have to bust out the old elbow grease for that one.
The iRobot App
If you have any products from iRobot, then you are familiar with the iRobot App. The same app is used for all iRobot devices. And it is a very good app.
You won’t be able to do all of the cool things that you can do with some more advanced iRobot models, but you can still start the cleaning and change the modes.
The app makes it easy to set up and control the Jet 240. But, if you don’t feel like using the app, you can simply push the CLEAN button on the device.

How Much Does The Braava 240 Cost?
The Jet 240 is a budget-friendly robot mop that you can purchase for under $200. That is a great value for a robot mop that does a very good job at keeping floors clean.
Final Thoughts On The Braava Jet 240
Small and compact, the Braava 240 is a great option if you want a robot mop but don’t want to spend a lot of money. The little robot does great at cleaning floors and getting into tight spaces. I prefer to use the Wet Mopping mode the majority of the time and it does pretty well at cleaning my tile floors.
Don’t buy the 240 if you think it will replace a regular mop. It will not. You still have to manually scrubs stains and tough dirt or debris. But the 240 does a great job at keeping the floor clean of new marks and stains.
